quilts
My desire to make quilts erupted one day when I realised I didn't have to make cuts at an accurate 45 degree angle, or cut fabric to 3 ¼ inch strips. I don't want to do that - I'm a REBELLIOUS QUILTER! Inspired by the quilts of Gee's Bend; antique finds stitched wonkily by hand; and by the joy of mixing up my stash of fabric and seeing what happens, I set out to make heaps of colour to snuggle under in the winter, have picnics on in the summer, and fold up into jolly teetering piles in between.
The techniques I've learned and any style that has developed has been transferred to other art work too.
THE REBELLIOUS QUILTERS are a growing group that meet with the primary intention to quilt, but find themselves doing many other things as well, and instead. Any quilting that does take place is encouraged by the rebellious members to be creatively different from the mainstream.
Often we find we have drunk so much tea, eaten so many biscuits and talked so much, that very little quilting has been done at all!
Due to a common home, and some common members, some quilts are exhibited at the life and other art exhibition in the summer... see the events page for details.
