about me
My art practice is rooted in textiles, but I also draw, paint and make mosaics.
I have recently completed a masters degree in Art Practice and Education, this has undoubtedly broadened my horizons in terms of the media I use.
I have become slightly obsessed with the appearance of the humble garden shed and its use as a refuge from the world, and more recently as a performance or gallery space.
Music has become an important part of my work, accompanying its making, and also its display.
In my textiles work I use mostly recycled fabrics: clothing and household textiles. I have a particular love of the functional bits that identify their previous lives - button strips, collars, cuffs, pockets and labels. I like the worn out parts, where the pattern has worn thin in places, mending, and even the occasional stain... the evidence of the people gone before.
The reason I choose to use old fabrics is both aesthetic and ethical.
I'm influenced by my family and friends, artists, musicians or otherwise: their interest, discussion and knowledge continue to inspire me!
I will continue to add links as I find new influences.
